Wonderkids Who Ever Made a Shock at the World Cup, from Pele to Lionel Messi

Wonderkids Who Ever Made a Shock at the World Cup, The 2018 World Cup witnessed how great a young man named Kylian Mbappe was .

First (1958)

He succeeded in bringing France to become champions in Russia.

At that time, Mbappe was 19 years old. However, he has become the main star of the Rooster team. This proves that age is just a number in football.

If a player is good enough, he is old enough to play. That philosophy is what makes Mbappe not hesitate to play with his seniors.

The World Cup event is not only a stage for players who have matured. Young players can also rock the World Cup stage.

Here are 5 players who performed admirably and rocked the World Cup apart from Mbappe. Unfortunately,

no Diego Maradona’s name was dropped from the Argentina national team player list in 1978 because the age of 17 was considered too young.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pele is a legend at the World Cup. At the age of 17, Pele made his debut at the 1958 World Cup despite suffering an injury before the tournament.

Pele’s debut finally came in the third match of the group stage and provided the assist for Vava’s second goal against the Soviet Union. In the knockout round, the audience actually witnessed Pele’s unparalleled genius.

After scoring the only goal of the quarter-final against Wales, Pele scored a 23-minute hat-trick as Brazil thrashed France 5-2 in the semifinals. He also scored one goal as Brazil crushed hosts Sweden 5-2 in the final.

Jose Altafini (1958)

Brazil has always produced extraordinary talents in the world of football, including Jose Altafini or Mazzola.

He was also one of the star players when Brazil won its first World Cup trophy in 1958. At the age of 19 he scored a goal as Brazil beat Austria in their opener.

Unfortunately he suffered an injury in the next match and his position was replaced by Pele who was also still 17 years old.

After the World Cup, Altafini joined AC Milan, enjoying great success. At the 1962 World Cup, he chose to play for Italy over Brazil, despite being eliminated in the first round.

Michael Owen (1998)

Former Ballon d’or winner Michael Owen is a prodigious talent for Liverpool and England. This baby-faced player has a lethal combination of speed to sharp finish.

Owen performed spectacularly with Liverpool during the 1997/1998 season and became England’s youngest player at the World Cup at the age of 18.

He made his world cup debut as a substitute against Tunisia and scored his first goal in the 2nd group match against Romania.

Owen’s genius action appeared in England’s round of 16 match against Argentina. He ran from the halfway line,

outwitted three Argentine defenders, then lifted the ball over the goalkeeper.

Dmitry Sychev (2002)

Although Landon Donovan of the USA was named the best young player in the 2002 World Cup final, he is already 20 years old.

However, there are players who are 18 years old who are able to look charming in the event which took place in Japan and South Korea.

He is the Russian player Dmitri Sychev who earned the nickname ‘Michael Owen Russia’. He scored one goal and one assist for Russia in this event despite having to run aground in the group stage.

His slick appearance at the World Cup made him move to French club Olympique Marseille. Unfortunately, he was under the shadow of Didier Drogba who appeared dominant at Marseille.

Lionel Messi (2006)

Lionel Messi has been a great player for almost two decades with Cristiano Ronaldo. After making his debut with Barcelona at the age of 17,

he then wore the senior Argentina national team uniform several times. Lionel Messi was also included in the Argentina squad list for the 2006 World Cup,

even though he was 18 years old at the time. Messi just made his World Cup debut in the second match of the group stage when Argentina faced Serbia Montenegro.

His debut astonished the world because he was able to score one goal and one assist. Unfortunately, since his debut until the 2018 World Cup, Lionel Messi has never lifted the World Cup trophy.
