Winner of the 2022 Finalissima, Messi is at the level of Ronaldo, now the World Cup awaits

Lionel Messi won the 2022 Finalissima after Argentina beat Italy

Lionel Messi managed to lead Argentina out as champion of Finalissima, an event that brings together the winners of the 2021 Copa America with Euro 2020.

Against Italy, Lionel Scaloni’s troops won the duel with a landslide score of 3-0. The match was held at Wembley Stadium on Thursday (2/6/2022) early morning.

Argentina took a two-goal lead in the first half through Lautaro Martinez and Angel Di Maria. Paulo Dybala could then add another goal for Argentina late in the second half.

Messi played an important role in the goals scored by Argentina. He provided assists for Lautaro and Dybala’s goals.

Man of the Match

Although not listed on the scoreboard, Lionel Messi was named Man of the Match by UEFA. The 34-year-old man showed a very impressive performance on the field.

“He controlled the game from start to finish,” said the UEFA Technical Observer Panel.

“He showed great skill to provide assists for Lautaro Martinez, provided key passes for his team-mates and was unlucky not to score.

“He has put on a master class performance for the Wembley crowd. It was great to watch.”

Match Ronaldo’s title

By lifting the 2022 Finalissima trophy, Messi has now collected two titles with Argentina. He previously managed to win the 2021 Copa America.

Argentina won the 2021 Copa America after a 1-0 win over Brazil. Angel Di Maria scored the only goal for La Albiceleste.

Messi is now also equaling the achievements of Cristiano Ronaldo at the international level. The achievements of the two world’s best players have always been juxtaposed over the past few years.

Ronaldo managed to lift two trophies with the Portugal national team. The Manchester United star took part in winning Euro 2016 and the UEFA Nations League.

Beautiful Final

Messi himself admitted that he was very happy with this success. He called this match a beautiful final.

“It was a beautiful final, full of Argentina. What we are experiencing here is very beautiful,” Messi said after the game.

“We are here to fight anyone. Today was a good test because Italy are a great team.

“We knew it was going to be a good game and a good setup to be champions”.

World Cup Waiting

Messi still has a great chance to win the title again with Argentina. The closest they will play is the 2022 World Cup.

Messi has always failed to lead Argentina to victory in the World Cup. Messi at best led his country through the final round.

Argentina advanced to the 2014 World Cup final. However, they failed to become champions after losing to Germany.

Can Messi lead Argentina to the 2022 World Cup? Interesting to wait.
