The French national team won the 2018 World Cup . In the final match at the Luzhniki Stadium, France won 4-2 over Croatia through goals from Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappe, and an own goal by Mario Mandzukic.

For France, this is the second title in a major World Cup tournament. They first won this title in 1998 at home.

After that beautiful moment, several French players weave success stories at club level. Kylian Mbappe won many titles with PSG. Kingsley Coman was a huge success at Bayern Munich.

However, there are several pillars that had led Les Blues to win the World Cup, but their performance dropped. Who are they? Let’s see the full review below,

Samuel Umtiti

Samuel Umtiti

Samuel Umtiti became France’s hero at the 2018 World Cup after his header in the 51st minute gave France a 1-0 win over Belgium. The result brought France to the 2018 World Cup final.

In addition to helping France win the World Cup, the 28-year-old has made an impressive performance record, starting six times and scoring one goal.

It turned with his performance at Barcelona. In the 2018/2019 season, Umtiti’s career slumped. Apart from having frequent problems with injuries and fitness, the presence of Clement Lenglet made him unable to compete.

Benjamin Mendy

Benjamin Mendy

Benjamin Mendy was part of the French national team when they won the 2018 World Cup. Overall, Mendy only appeared in one match. He played for 40 minutes when France faced Denmark in the group stage match.

Manchester City signed Mendy with a dowry of 52 million pounds (about Rp1 trillion) after performing brilliantly with Monaco. However, during his contract with The Citizens, Benjamin Mendy entered the examination room more often than the field.

Since the 2017/18 season, he has never been able to collect up to 20 games in the Premier League each season. He is currently in detention on charges of four rapes and one sexual assault.

Thomas Lemar

Thomas Lemar

Lemar was part of the France squad that won the 2018 World Cup in Russia, despite only playing one game. When Lemar played, France were held to a draw by Denmark in the group stage.

The 26-year-old has had a difficult time since playing for Los Rojiblancos. Even in the 2019/20 season, Lemar went through 29 competitive matches with Atletico without being able to score or assist.

Those statistics are a slap in the face for an attacking midfielder like him. Lemar’s performance improved in the last 2021/2022 season. He played 34 games in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing six assists for Atletico.

Djibril Sidibe

Djibril Sidibe

Similar to Lemar, Sidibe recorded playing in just one match during the 2018 World Cup. He replaced Benjamin Pavard in the duel against Denmark, the last match of the group phase.

Sidibe’s career went uphill when he defended AS Monaco. He led Monaco to win Ligue 1 in the 2016/2017 season. The following season, he also performed well and was included in the 2022 World Cup squad.

After that, Sidibe tested his ability in the Premier League to strengthen Everton. However, Sidibe failed miserably at Everton. Now, the 30-year-old player is without a club after his contract was not extended by Everton.

Adil Rami

Adil Rami

Adil Rami was a member of the Les Blues squad that won the 2018 World Cup, although he did not play at all during the tournament in Russia.

Adil Rami experienced a significant career decline after winning the 2018 World Cup. He is no longer the main choice at Marseille. Then, he had to travel to Turkey and Portugal to build a career.

“I could have had a better career if I had a better lifestyle. My biggest problem is food. I love to eat,” Rami told Le Figaro .

La Liga Officially Complains PSG and Man City to UEFA Regarding Alleged FFP Violations

La Liga Officially

La Liga operators recently made a surprising maneuver. They officially complained to PSG and Manchester City regarding Financial Fair Play violations.

Sky Sports reports that La Liga has actually been against Manchester City since last April. But recently they complained PSG to European football bodies.

La Liga said that their protest had a strong basis. They considered these two clubs to have committed financial violations through their transfers.

La Liga argues that if this situation continues then these two clubs will damage the fabric of European football. The DNA will have an impact on other clubs.

Check out the official La Liga statement below.

File a Report

Through their official statement, La Liga filed a complaint against PSG and Man City with UEFA for their suspicious transfer and financial activities.

“This week La Liga has lodged a complaint against PSG with UEFA, after in April we complained to Manchester City about these two clubs continuing to violate the rules of financial fair play,” he said.

“La Liga considers the practice of these two clubs to jeopardize the sustainability of European football and they will increase inflation in the transfer market.”

Because of Mbappe and Haaland?

La Liga’s decision to complain to UEFA is suspected to have something to do with the two big transfers made by the two clubs this summer.

Manchester City have officially signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. Whereas Haaland was initially linked with two La Liga clubs, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, PSG successfully defended Kylian Mbappe, who has reportedly agreed to move to Real Madrid. So the failure of these two big transfers made La Liga furious.

Ever Got Punished

There is hope for La Liga that their demands will be granted by UEFA. Because both PSG and Man City have received an embargo.

In 2014 they were not able to shop freely after they were found guilty by UEFA.

Ronaldo and Messi Lose to Suarez

Uruguay National Team striker Luis Suarez

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi can brag about their hat-trick records. They are far ahead of Luis Suarez.

However, Suarez has one thing he can be proud of because Ronaldo and Messi have never done it. He once scored six goals in one game!

Apart from Suarez, there are three other players who have also recorded a similar record. They are Ali Ashfaq, Baghdad Bounedjah, and Maksim Gruznov.

Mbappe is staying at PSG but he still has time to move to Madrid

Angel di Maria said Kylian Mbappe made the right decision to stay at PSG but he also said this did not mean Mbappe would not be able to play at Real Madrid in the future.

Mbappe is widely said to be leaving PSG in the summer of 2022. Because he did not renew his contract at the club.

Mbappe is said to want to find a new challenge. He was later called to join Real Madrid.

Mbappe still has time to move to Madrid

Kylian Mbappe’s decision to stay at PSG received a thumbs up from Angel Di Maria. However, the Argentine added that the decision did not automatically prevent Mbappe from moving to Real Madrid in the future.

Mbappe himself signed a contract for only three years at PSG. So after that he was still able to join other clubs, including Real Madrid.

“I think he has made the right decision. He is still young and has time to go to Madrid, he has time to go wherever he wants,” he said as reported by Goal.

“He has just signed a contract for three more years and he will be 26 years old. He has a lot in front of him.”

“He likes to make history and he will continue to make history here. He almost scored 200 goals,” said Di Maria.

Mbappe’s chance to Madrid

Angel Di Maria was then asked about the possibility of Kylian Mbappe moving to Real Madrid after his contract at PSG ended. But he couldn’t give a definite answer.

“I don’t know, people at Madrid are complicated. The Bernabeu is difficult, but he has the talent to win them,” he said.

Madrid itself has the possibility of no longer chasing Mbappe after failing to recruit him. This has happened before in the case of David de Gea.

Mbappe said

After staying at PSG, Kylian Mbappe had time to talk about his future. He admitted that he did not close the door to join Real Madrid one day.

“It will never end, it will never end. The only thing now is that I have signed a contract for another three years. You never know what could happen in the future,” he told BBC Sport.

“I give up thinking about the future, I only think about the present and the present is that I have signed a new contract for another three years at Paris Saint-Germain,” said Mbappe.
