Failed to make it to the 2022 World Cup, wrongly hints at retirement from the Egyptian national team
The duel between Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the Senegal vs Egypt match in the Africa zone 2022 World Cup playoffs at the Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade stadium in Dakar, Wednesday (30/03/2022) early morning WIB

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has hinted he may retire from the Egyptian national team after failing to lead his country to the 2022 World Cup.

Salah has almost once again brought Egypt to the 2022 World Cup. All they need to do is draw against Senegal in the second leg of the African zone playoffs.

However they lost 1-0 while playing in Dakar. This makes the match ended in a draw 1-1 on aggregate.

The match had to go to a penalty shootout. Here Senegal finally won 3-1 because several Egyptian executioners failed, including Salah.

Wrong Retirement Signal?
The defeat of course made Mohamed Salah disappointed. Moreover, previously he also failed to bring Egypt to victory in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations final, also against Senegal.

After the match, Salah then gave a speech to the Egypt squad. This is when he hinted that he could retire from the international stage in the future.

“I am honored that I played with you and I am very proud to play with you, whether I am with you or not in the future,” Salah told his team-mates, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

Official Egyptian Complaint
Previously, the Egyptian Football Federation, EFA, had filed a complaint with the FAC and FIFA. They reported the despicable actions of the Senegalese fans.

They claim the fans made racial slurs at the Egypt squad. Especially Mohamed Salah.

The fans also damaged the Egyptian squad bus. They threw stones at him and made a number of glass shatter and crack.

Mohamed Salah did not stay long in Senegal. He immediately flew back to England and joined Liverpool again.

He is also said to have shown his nose at Liverpool’s training base at the Axa Training Center on Wednesday (30/03/2022) afternoon local time, before lunch time. This was revealed from the Anfield Watch account tweet, which quoted information from Times journalist Paul Joyce.
