Defending Premier League champions Manchester City have confirmed their first signing of the summer. The Citizens have officially approved the transfer of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund .
Haaland’s transfer to City had actually been announced long ago. At the end of last May, The Citizens announced that they had agreed with Dortmund for the transfer of the striker.
However, for one and two reasons, this transfer has not been approved by City. They have yet to register the striker as their player for the upcoming 2022/23 season.
On Monday (13/6) City finally approved this transfer. They introduced to the public that Erling Haaland was officially part of their team.
In their official statement, Manchester City announced that they had tied Haaland to a long-term contract.
The striker is tied to a five-year contract. So he will defend the banner of The Citizens until 2027.
This contract will be officially active from July 1, 2022. So he could go on City’s pre-season tour.
City’s sporting director, Txiki Begiristain, is delighted to have secured Haaland’s services. He considered The Citizens to get a special talent in the striker.
“We have been watching Erling for the last few years, so we are delighted that he has joined City. He has great talent and he has become one of the best strikers in Europe in recent seasons.”
“His career has been incredible and remember, he is only 21 years old. We are sure that his best period will shine with Pep in the years to come. He is an outstanding signing for our team and I’m sure our fans will be delighted to see Erling’s performances, ” he said.
In the City’s official statement, they have not disclosed the number of jerseys that will be worn by Haaland.
The striker is reportedly still picking on the number of jerseys, where he is rumored to be wearing the number 9 jersey after Gabriel Jesus left City.
