Goals Disallowed until Penalties Are Approved, Here’s a List of Referee Controversy in the First 4 Weeks of BRI Liga 1 2022/23

Goals Disallowed until Penalties Are Approved, The controversy over the leadership of referees is still one of the most discussed topics in the Indonesian League,

including the BRI Liga 1 2022/23 season, which has only been running for four weeks.

From season to season, the quality of match referees has often received sharp criticism from various parties, ranging from players, coaches, to supporters.

The leadership of the black-shirted corps is often mistaken. The problem is, the decision is detrimental to one of the clubs.

PSM Makassar is the club that has been the most vocal in criticizing referees. Through its coach, Bernardo Tavares, the team called the Ramang Troops almost every week blames the match referee.

Recently, Bernardo Tavares was furious with referee Dwi Purba Adi Wicaksana even though PSM won 2-1 over Persikabo 1973 on Monday (15/8/2022).

“About the referee, we did win. However, I have to talk about the referee. Why? It’s astonishing about this referee,” said the Portuguese architect.

“There were several incidents on the field, but the referee did not give the right decision. Not to mention, our team easily got a yellow card,” said the new coach in the Indonesian football scene

12 Referees Sent Off

PSSI has moved to evaluate a number of referees on August 12, 2022, but stealth decisions are still happening.

PSSI rested five referees, three assistant referees, and four additional assistant referees for two to three months.

“PSSI continues to be committed to fixing referees, be it referees in BRI League 1, League 2, and League 3. We also continue to evaluate and supervise as long as they lead,” said Chairman of the PSSI Referee Committee, Ahmad Riyadh.

Bola.net summarizes several controversial refereeing decisions until the fourth matchday of BRI Liga 1. Here are three of them:

Diving Taisei Marukawa

Referee Mustofa Umarella’s decision when PSIS Semarang played against Barito Putera in the third week of BRI Liga 1 at the Jatidiri Stadium, Semarang on August 6, 2022, was considered wrong.

Umarella awarded PSIS a penalty kick after assessing that Taisei Marukawa had been violated by Barito Putera’s Frank Sokoy.

From the replay, Sokoy doesn’t seem to be touching Marukawa. The Japanese midfielder actually fell by himself, aka diving.

Unfortunately for Barito Putera. The PSIS penalty executed by Jonathan Cantillana was able to break the goalkeeper Joko Ribowo’s goal.

Marc Klok goes into the penalty box

Referee Totok Fitrianto repeated the penalty of Persib Bandung striker David da Silva against PSIS in the fourth week of BRI Liga 1 at the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api (GBLA) Stadium on August 13, 2022.

Totok considered PSIS goalkeeper, Wahyu Tri Nugroho, to have advanced from his goal or did not step on the line when David da Silva kicked the ball.

David da Silva’s shot that was blocked by Wahyu Tri had to be repeated.

When David da Silva’s penalty was replayed, Marc Klok went into the box before the ball was kicked in by the Brazilian striker.

David da Silva was able to complete his job well. Supposedly, the 32-year-old striker’s penalty was repeated because Marc Klok had slipped into the box of 16.

Persebaya goal disallowed

The duel between Persebaya Surabaya and Madura United still leaves one story. There was one Persebaya goal that was not approved by referee Mansyur in the fourth week match of BRI Liga 1 2022/2023.

At that time, Persebaya Surabaya was already winning 2-1. Madura United had taken the lead thanks to Luiz Marcelo Lulinha’s goal in the seventh minute. Persebaya then replied to two goals scored by Silvio Junior in the 28th minute and Sho Yamamoto in the 49th minute.

Persebaya scored again in the 53rd minute. This time, Higor Vidal sent a corner kick which was met by Silvio Junior’s header. The ball went into the opponent’s goal, but the referee annulled it because he thought Leo Lelis had violated Cleberson Martins.

This incident gave birth to another strong protest from the players of Persebaya Surabaya. Cleberson did not duel with Silvio who won the ball. He also did not fall due to his duel with Leo Lelis. However, the referee still did not approve the goal.
