Fake birth certificates of players, Ecuador will be removed from the 2022 World Cup and replaced by Italy?

Ecuador National Team

The Ecuadorian national team is under FIFA investigation and may be removed from the list of participants for the 2022 World Cup . Now, there is speculation that Chile or Italy might replace Ecuador at the 2022 World Cup.

Ecuador is one of 30 countries that have qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Ecuador qualified after occupying fourth place in the final standings of the 2022 World Cup Qualifications in the CONMEBOL zone.

However, according to a report by Football Italia, Thursday (9/6/2022), FIFA will make a decision on this controversy tomorrow morning and Ecuador’s position is very difficult to justify.

They are accused of falsifying player Byron Castillo’s birth certificate and passport to make it appear as if he was born in Ecuador.

Following a complaint from Chile, it was discovered that Castillo was actually born in Colombia and did not have the right to Ecuadorian citizenship. Chile immediately protested and demanded that Ecuador be removed from the 2022 World Cup.

In theory, Italy will be promoted to the 2022 World Cup as the highest eliminated team in the FIFA world rankings.

However, FIFA will most likely give a slot to Chile. Because, Chile comes from the same zone as Ecuador so that it can become the fourth CONMEBOL representative. Meanwhile, Italy from the European zone.

Chile demanded that Ecuador be punished with dropping points in eight matches played by Castillo. That would give Ecuador’s opponents the three points. Thus, Chile rose to fourth in the standings and automatically qualified for the 2022 World Cup.

Castillo has nine senior caps for Ecuador, playing in eight World Cup qualifiers. Originally, at the 2022 World Cup, Ecuador was placed in Group A with hosts Qatar, the Netherlands and Senegal.
