Erling Haaland’s transfer saga has been answered. Through an official statement, Man City announced that it had agreed on the transfer of the Norwegian striker.
If salary negotiations and contract signing are completed in the near future, then Man City can officially announce Erling Haaland on July 1, 2022.
“Manchester City can confirm that we have reached an agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of striker Erling Haaland on 1 July 2022,” read a Man City statement.
“Transfer negotiations await the fulfillment of the terms of the club’s finalization with the player,” he continued, which means Erling Haaland just needs to sign a contract that Man City management offered.
This news is quite surprising considering that manager Pep Guardiola, shortly before the announcement, had been asked by Man City and Dortmund not to discuss anything about the transfer of Erling Haaland.
“Everyone knows what the situation is, but I can’t speak because I don’t like to talk about next season even though I have spoken a few times,” said Pep Guardiola.
“Dortmund and Man City have asked me not to say anything about this until an announcement is made.”
According to Sky Germany, the striker has informed Borussia Dortmund that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. The release clause in his contract is €75 million.
Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano told Dortmund boss Hans-Joachim Watzke last week Man City were ready to activate the striker’s release clause.
The clause stipulates that Haaland’s transfer fee must be paid in cash, unlike many other club transfers which are paid in installments.
Some details are still to be worked out for the deal which is expected to be announced later this week.
